This worked very well for planting tomatoes and peppers in my established beds, drastically reducing the amount of work. In drier beds, the auger offered enough resistance, but worked very well in the afternoon after rain. Other reviews mention that you have to be careful not to hurt your wrists if it gets stuck. I think that's good advice as it can stop abruptly if it hits a rock or hard dirt. It will most likely work "well" if you're drilling into the lawn, but anything with gravel, roots, or hard dirt can be intimidating.
