I recently tagged about 350 wires with permanent ferrules. This saved me from removing the backing from a large number of labels and wrapping them around the wire. It's not a huge time saver - unless you're producing marked wires at a workbench with the right equipment to aid in speed. The main advantage after they don't need to be cleaned is how uniform and special they are. I mostly did MTW 18ga with fairly thick insulation and the fit was good. Every now and then someone would print them out for me, but it would be nice if they could open them as easily as I can, it would save more time. That's good news. The bad news: they can be difficult to open to attach the wire if the wire is pre-stripped, the strands want to catch on the sleeve so you may have to coil them first if you can't use quick release skewers, the label is already on and the printed characters may shrink towards the end or deform after shrinking, using an open flame may turn the label brown or burn the wire insulation, they do not adhere as strongly as sticky labels, they may slip off, and last but not least, they are expensive.
