Review on Complete Rebuild Kit for Edelmann 7858 Power Steering Gear Box by Dan West

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Kit as a whole OK

Kit as a whole OK. My power steering box is a 1966 (Chevelle) version with a 17.5 ratio. Reason for overhaul: Intake leak and Pitman seals. Looking back, my teflon rings and o-rings weren't that bad. The seals were clearly too old and too stiff. The box worked normally but leaked through the seals. The kit includes 2 o-rings and 1 c-clip that didn't seem to be in my steering box. It would be nice if the leaflet mentioned this difference. My side cover gasket is just an o-ring while the kit only comes with a metal plate version with a gasket. The new O-ring for the valve spool is too thin in my opinion. The new one didn't stick out of the groove, so the old one had to be left. I fouled one of the 3 new teflon valve body o-rings. It's obviously bad, but I'd be happy to (pay extra) for a spare in the kit. I had to use the old one.

Pros
  • Solid construction
Cons
  • Hard to tell
