The holes are very small so if you can't get leaf dust in the strainer you shouldn't get any loose tea residue. I am giving this five stars because after careful reading I got exactly what I advertised. However, as another user noted, I would like the strainer to be made entirely of silicone and not just the lid that goes with the basket. I also wish the shovel measurement was a bit more accurate. I don't know if it fits exactly on a teaspoon, I think it's bigger. Don't break the deal as it's really useful but would be nice.
