I would give 5 stars if REACTIVATED silica gel packs lasted as long as BRAND NEW. Unfortunately not, so that means that PRAGMATICALLY I can only use each pack once, especially since REACTIVATED silica packs have to be REACTIVATED again and again after a relatively short period of use. Difference in EFFICIENCY of randomly selected silica gel packs. I randomly tested 4 (out of 14) BRAND NEW silica packs. I used the following test protocol: A. After test packs 1 and 3 went from originally 100% BLUE (BRAND NEW) to 100% ROSE (SATURATED), I REACTIVATED each pack (1 or 3) SEPARATELY in a 1200 watt (MW) microwave oven for the number of minutes ( MIN ) and at the power level % (PL%) given in the data below BEFORE the beads turn from 100% PINK back to 100% BLUE.D. I then repeated A. and B. above with REACTIVATED beads. Test bags 2 and 4 (which served as CONTROLS), also at an ambient temperature of 60 to 65 F, were placed outdoors next to the 2 IDENTICAL sealed containers [(i) and (ii)] mentioned in A. above. . The ambient relative humidity (RH) in the test room was approximately 35-50% RH at 60-65 F. Please note that the test data in the table below shows that Package #1 lasted 13 days (DAY 13-DAY 0). , if the brand is NEW BUT ONLY 3 days (DAY 16-DAY 13) and 5 days (DAY 24-DAY 19) after the REACTIVATION of Pack #1, meaning the REACTIVATED silica packs will not be stored anywhere until then they are BRAND NEW. Note that the following test data also shows that Pack #3 lasted 83 days (DAY 83 - DAY 0) when it was BRAND NEW, BUT ONLY 21 days (DAY 104 - DAY 83) after Pack #3 was REACTIVATED , which again shows that REACTIVATED silica packs never last as long as BRAND NEW.
