Let me start by saying that I'm 4 have it in my house. When I first got them they worked great. But for some time in the last 6 months they "upgraded" them to include a feature called ecobee+. Now, by way of introduction, let me say that I am a techie and a licensed contractor. I'm also fortunate to have solar panels that provide almost all of the electricity I need. Now let's get down to business. After Ecobee added this Feature+, the thermostats failed. My 11 month old baby's room got up to 82 degrees when we set the thermostat for his room between 70 and 75 with a remote sensor that communicates with the thermostat. I've tried and tried disabling Plus and contacted tech support multiple times to no avail. They keep telling me to try something else but it still doesn't work. For example, if you try to turn it off completely, it says you need to contact Edison in Southern California to opt out of the smart energy program. So I contacted them to make sure Edison had no record of me ever being enrolled in this program. Now if you contact Ecobee they will tell you to turn off all the features I have but the same thing is happening in my son's room area. My mother in law came and stayed with us and couldn't believe her room got so hot in the middle of the night. She said when she looked at the thermostat, it read 80. Also, as I mentioned, I have solar panels and don't have to participate in any energy saving program. I power the network daily without removing it. In fact, Ecobee never asked if you wanted to sweat or not use the air conditioner - they decided for you. In fact, they became Big Brother. Too bad they worked so well until they did. I installed hundreds of them and around the same time people called me and asked me to rip them out. My parents had them in the house and my dad said that during the Super Bowl he noticed he was hot and hot. He thought the air conditioning was broken, no. ecobee thought he wasn't there and went into eco+ mode during the big game! Be sure to think about what you would like to do before you buy it. I waited to have them replaced at my home because I was told a fix would come, but it didn't. And we're in the middle of summer so I've ordered a replacement and plan on throwing these out. I think it's back to Nest.
