I bought these as I have a cat who just LOVES to ask for attention by opening my cabinets so they slam shut, particularly when I am trying to sleep. I purchased these as I am in a rental and did not want to install latches in a home I do not own. If you follow instructions, the adhesion is great on a wood finish. I have had them installed since March and not a single one has fallen off or moved. The hold is good enough to stop my pets, but you would likely need two to stop a larger animal. I placed them on the bottom corner of the door to make sure it was where my animal normally tries to open. You will want to make sure you close the cabinets a little more carefully after installation, as the magnet forces will make it slam if you just push it closed. I did not try the screws that came with the magnets, but imagine that they would have worked fine as well.
