Another disappointment from Tomtom!

This item was purchased after a trip to Europe as a replacement/upgrade for a Tomtom Via which served us well on our trip despite a faulty internal battery (this Via was a replacement for another recently purchased Via ). which could not accommodate the required memory expansion card). In any case, despite the cumbersome user interface, this GO 620 has a lot of useful features, most of which we didn't get to try as the device failed for a couple of pretty simple reasons. so far. First, downloading maps and system updates (which you should do right away - and which you probably will need to install a micro SD storage expansion card for) was a difficult task. Updates must be done over Wi-Fi or a USB connection to a computer. It took me 1/2 day to successfully upload maps of US, Canada and Mexico (USB kept failing but eventually succeeded over WiFi). It has never been possible to load maps of Europe in this way; I keep getting the message "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again". No success after many attempts, so filed a case with Tomtom tech support who hasn't responded for 3 days. Second, we tested this GO 620 on a trip from our home in New Mexico to a restaurant in El Paso, Texas, a route we were very familiar with. Our old Garmin for comparison. Tomtom tried to take us on some really bizarre routes that were completely illogical. Our journey from El Paso to New Mexico was almost 45 miles straight on I-10. We adjust the GPS settings to get us the quickest route (hmm, along I-10, right?). However, GO 620 tried several times to get us off I-10 onto some back roads and then surprisingly back onto I-10. Well, fig! Bottom line: you can't download your maps, you can't get reliable route guidance, you can't get responsive tech support - in short, You can't get what you expected and what you paid for. The third Tomtom product to return to Revain. Very disappointing! Our journey from El Paso to New Mexico was almost 45 miles straight on I-10.
