We quickly learned to take Google or Map Quest directions with us even though we had a GPS. In most cases you can rely on instructions, but sometimes it costs you a lot of extra time. We keep the GPS on the "fastest route". However, the GPS does not seem to take country roads into account when planning a trip. It will constantly prompt you to return to the main roads, even if returning will add 30 minutes to your journey. For example yesterday we decided not to leave the main road and over the next hour the GPS gave directions on how to turn around and get back on track. He knew the street we were on but didn't change direction accordingly. So much for "The fastest route”.
