Before deciding on these placemats I checked a few things: 1. The gold foil stays on the napkin and there is very little shine. Some glitter comes out of the packaging so it's probably best to open it up and give it a little shake before placing it on the table. The black cloth is fade resistant so your face and hands won't turn black. It should be noted that only one side of the napkin is black; the other side is white. This has not become an obstacle for me, but it is useful information.3. The white side of the wipe is more absorbent because it doesn't have a black coating, but if you let it wait a few seconds the black side will absorb the spill as well. Both sides are great for wiping fingers or mouth (tested on slightly greasy pizza - works well). All in all, the towels are good and serve their purpose. I look forward to using them.
