Review on Oudtinx Electronic Indicator Conversion Measuring by Young Toulson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Decent value but questionable accuracy and poor arm connection

First off, for the price this is a decent kit if you don't need real precision. I'll start with the cons. Cons: The declared resolution is 5 hundredths, but nothing. There's not even a fake checklist (or one copied from a passed test) to review. Setting up on a lathe and measuring a turned surface can show several thousandths of an error when measuring the same point, depending on how (in which direction) you approach the point. This leads me to think that the top finish is less accurate than the dial or the mechanism is not very reliable. Two selection meters are too easy to screw up. I received one that I did not order but only later understood. The spring force of the indicator probe is also quite large. If you specify soft metals, the spring force deforms the measured material. The lever doesn't have a hydraulic lock (which is fairly typical for this price point), but the materials are soft. The pressure arms and balls are deformed by repeated correct snapping in the same place. Base. most likely not square. It is very roughly machined and the magnet never fully detaches. If it's blocked, it's not blocked well. I'm not sure the bottom of the magazine is strong enough to fully overcome the spring tip pressure. With a sufficient eccentricity deviation on the measured surface, the base of the magnet moves by 1-2 thousand. CONCLUSION: This works quite well for relative measurements on a lathe. (According to the micrometer test, this is only within 1000 for the first 30-40% of travel. Accuracy is never better than five tenths.) The arms CAN be locked in a hard position, but I'm not sure how long that is will take time. last. For the hobbyist where tolerances can be adjusted for one-off projects this is probably fine, but I wouldn't use it for something that needs to be reproducible. Batteries discharge quickly). To prolong life, never tighten the lever more than absolutely necessary (it's not hydraulic, so you can't just twist it in). In a nutshell; It works well enough, but take your need for accuracy and compare it to the specs for this one and expect it to be less than half as accurate as advertised.

Pros
  • Used to accurately measure small linears; Professional certificate included
Cons
  • So far so good
