I am educated and educated; I bought this for my teenage girls who wanted to know what I've been up to in my career as a molecular biologist. Microscopes were the focus of my work and cost thousands of dollars, so obviously getting one was impossible. There were many fakes on the market looking for the right scope, but then I stumbled upon the Swift microscope. This Swift model is comparable, if not more, to what a typical high school science lab might be. It allowed me to teach my daughters the basics of microscopy: staining and preparing slides, using different lenses, looking at stained slides, using live specimens, and using an oil immersion lens. The camera attachment easily connects to a laptop and displays clear images of what's in the scope's field of view. This is not a "professional" microscope. However, it lends itself very well to educating and engaging young minds in an authentic scientific experience that may inspire a passion for exploring the field. Even when working with a scope, it never feels like a toy to me. My daughters got a legitimate understanding of how I studied and applied biology.
