I rarely do out of the box reviews. This article is worth it. Build wise it is very good and Nightfox pays attention to detail with a neat case and neck strap. I will mount it on a helmet with the included sturdy hardware. The buttons and menu options are very logical and easy to use. Wavelength 940nm - it's just a huge win, as is the 1x magnification. Even at arm's length you can barely see the illuminator's glow. The backlight is adjustable and for good use when you need to remain inconspicuous, low settings are always fine still sufficient Good contrast, disadvantages? Well, that would be 5 stars plus with a better field of view. 34 degrees is not bad, but it could be better. Opening even 10-15 degrees more would be a big improvement. That could be more than anyone would get at a very affordable $160. This is my second digital device; much better than the old one i have (have been using it for about 7 years now) and in my opinion it is better than the gen 1 night scope i also have. I have tried and returned other low quality digital night vision products.
