Review on Monroe 58630 Adjust Shock Absorber by Robert Grind

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The increased ride height and supporting mass are much stronger and feel more solid.

Installed a pair on my 2001 Dodge Dakota 4.7L QC 2wd with no problems. I had to move the brake line on the passenger side to keep it from rubbing against the coil spring. When installing, note that you must support the frame and allow the rear axle to hang freely in order to install it. These had to have the frame raised a little higher to line up with the deck mount as the shock absorbers are slightly longer than normal shock absorbers. That being said, installation really isn't a problem, as some other customers say, use your head not your brawn and take it easy on yourself. I carry heavy objects in my bed and wanted it to be stable so it wouldn't rock back and forth which usually happens with heavy loads. It also increased the ground clearance by about 1/2 inch from floor to top of the bed rails. I've been using it for a month with no problems and still haven't had a wheel hop. I carry everything in my bed from used equipment to loose or bagged gravel weighing between 400 and 800 pounds, and since I have them installed I don't worry about instability when moving with heavy loads . These are the only ones I have been able to find for my truck with coilovers and I prefer these over airbag installs. UPDATE: April 2021 I wanted to clarify something about my previous post about loading my bed with gravel bags. As the weight on the bed increases, the cushions become firmer. If I load more than 300lbs in the bed there is a drop in height, but when more weight is added the drop is not as great and keeps it stable hence the name "Load Matching". The ride is solid and manageable on the highway, I am very happy with these shocks for their performance and value.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Running speed
