Dogs fit, cats don't

We have big dogs that live with cats. We don't want cats outside. How will you achieve this? I have put up with complex electronic solutions that would require our dogs to wear collars. We would also need to service the batteries in the collars and the electronic door system. And they are not reliable if you read the reviews. Some of these electronic dog doors cost over a thousand dollars! whoops I resisted buying these things and stumbled across this dog door. It sounded great. Big sizes with dual valves can be expensive, but medium and small sizes were more reasonable. In addition, the description promised high-quality assembly made of solid materials. I've had other doors for dogs and cats and this one was worth it; just tired of crappy plastic. Great door. Installation was easy. The doors themselves are of very good quality. I would call them commercial. I was very pleased when I pulled them out of the box and saw how solid they are. All plastic is non-structural. We bought a double valve. This means that instead of one valved frame and one non-valved frame, you get two valved frames, essentially duplicates, except that one side accepts mounting bolts and must be used from the outside (you don't want a thief to be able to pry off the bolt hole covers and the to expose Phillips screw heads for removal). The door works great. The damper mechanism is strong and efficient. They are attached with a firm "click" of magnets. I feel like my door is still secure and weatherproof despite these things. And the optics are high quality, not cheap plastic. About entering and exiting the door: If your dogs are even a little shy, it will take some training. The magnetic closure is secure and it takes a lot of force to open the flap. Twice as big with double flaps. But with diligent training, I think every dog comes out the door. Lots of treats and help until they get in and out without a second thought. About Cats: A major deterrent to buying these electronic doors, alongside collars and batteries, were cost and maintenance reviews stating that smart cats still find a way out! They either hang around the door until the dogs come through and take the opportunity, or they learn to signal the dogs to open the door for them! Yet again. Here I could buy an expensive plastic electronics box and find that they still make cats. Thanks to the reviewers for pointing that out. Cats don't come out that door unless they're tigers. It's just too hard to assert yourself; especially the dual valve. In fact, it says "not for cats" on the packaging or in the instructions. (Remember we use a large size 10 with double doors. Your experience may be different with smaller single door doors and determined, strong cats.) In any case, our cat didn't even try to get out. I am very satisfied with this door and can recommend it. Even without the cats I would have gotten this door. Others are kind of ashamed of it. Note. The reviewer said they had trouble aligning the screws. Well, I had to align screws hundreds of times in more complex scenarios; it just didn't matter much. Place the door on a flat surface, e.g. B. a workbench (do not drag it between two saws to cut a hole). Try using a flashlight by shining a light into the hole, adjusting so the screw hole is level and inserting the screw straight. We didn't even have to use a flashlight, we just spaced the doors more or less evenly across the opening and the screws found their holes easily. It was straight.
