The water spray throws the residue from the filter into the basket and then into the pot.

Oh where do I start with this coffee maker? First I want to tell you what I liked. The machine is light and fits well on the countertop. It is easy to program and the clock is easy to set. The brewing process begins as soon as you fill the tank with water and turn on the power. There is a "brew option" button that allows you to select the type of brew cycle (regular, 1-4 cup or rich) and the cleaning cycle. Just choose what you need after turning on the machine. It saves your chosen settings for the next time until it is disconnected from the network. Tip: Skip the pot of water before first use. This is stated in the user manual. The coffee was delicious but I noticed a bit of haze at the bottom of the first cup and more in the second cup. Which brings me to what I do NOT like about this coffee maker. The water is sprayed into the coffee filter/basket area so forcefully that the ground coffee is thrown straight out of the filter and into the basket, thereby entering the coffee pot itself. This explains the thickness I found in my coffee. Usually that can happen and some coffee grounds end up in the pot, right? Well, I've never had SO much coffee grounds on the bottom of my carafe/coffee pot before this machine. I had to tap the basket several times to get most of the loose soil out. I then had to use 2 different paper towels (after pouring as much coffee as I could out of the pot) to scoop up a copious amount of coffee grounds from the bottom of the pot. All I can say is look at my photos! This machine could be good but the pressure of the water entering the basket is too high and it throws the grounds out and ends up in the pan. This makes the cleaning process tedious and not worth it.
