Review on πŸ”₯ PNY Elite 480GB SSD USB 3.0 Portable Solid State Drive - Review, Features & Price by Micheal Esquivel

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Medium Performance Ultra Small SSD

It was sold for $110 Revain Deal of the Day and what I like about this product so far is the size and quality. Ultra-compact Solid State Drive you can touch. Pros Compact size, arguably one of the smallest SSDs in the portable SSD class. Look, feel and material quality are good. Good average speeds, not as good as the company claims. Works out of the box on MAC and Windows, just plug and play (read and write) Questions This SSD will get/feel warm if you constantly use it to read or copy data. Not what I expected but I guess it can't hurt. The pagination wasn't very good, it came in a large envelope that was torn around the edge, although the manufacturer's plastic packaging was intact. The plastic packaging is really hard to cut, wish it would lead to the disappointment of the free packaging. Cons: Read and write speeds aren't as consistent compared to Samsung or Sandisk. I tried the accelerated test on Mac and Windows the same way. Not even close to what is claimed. After connecting the hard drive it takes a very long time for the computer to recognize it, I've tried this on 3 different computers and it's the same. Lasts about 30 seconds. The disc is named in Chinese or Korean - you need to rename it. The package says it includes data protection software, but it hasn't been **updated**. I don't want to be a critic, just trying to understand if the product that was shipped to me has any problem. After several tests on Mac and PC (not the one I used before) the results are, if not quite, almost the same. Also tested on my Samsung SSD and they are consistent too1. 339.6 writes and 298.0 reads on the Mac Book Pro Retina i7 16GB2. 331.2 writes and 265.6 reads on Lenovo i5 8gb3. 336.0 write and 290.4 read on HP i7 16GB If you look at the number based pattern they are very similar and nowhere near what the 430/400 manufacturer and some other users claim. Also, the SSD heats up even when you're looking at pictures - not that it bothers me, but just trying to find out if my SSD is defective.
