This is an old fashioned accordion style wooden (actually probably bamboo) gate and is exactly what I wanted and needed, but it is NOT a gate for everyone. This is a good gate to prevent an animal from going through a door without permission, but it will not deter a violent or determined dog. The holes are large enough for a cat or small dog to fit through, and large enough for a large dog's head (or a small child's head) to slip through, bend and crush, pinch, or get stuck. Wooden planks are easily chewed and have enough space for a dog to easily wrap their mouth around them. A smaller dog could also climb up. This vintage design works best for me, my situation and my home, but there's a reason most children's and home gates have been redesigned to be safer and stronger.
