We added this wheel after having a wooden gate in the driveway and a wooden fence around the property. The gate proved difficult for my children to open and close and swung open at the slightest gust of wind. We see a lot of sagging gates here in the Midwest and we wanted to add insurance that we won't have. We attached a cedar strut left by the contractor to the back of the gate and attached a wheel to it. We've placed it in the center of the gate leaf so that it fully touches our tarmac driveway (our drive needs to be replaced so the incline is far away) but still doesn't get in the way of our feet on the edge of the gate. .So far, so good. Rolls smoothly. Some resistance when opening the gate so the wind can't blow it away so easily, but not too much so I or the kids can't open or close it. Outside, the gate with the wheel on it looks flat. We almost never use the second gate so we didn't want to add a wheel on that side, but to keep the gate from sagging we will add a wheel there before winter hits.
