Review on Vantage Point BSM-B Bookshelf Series Speaker Mounts - Black, Versatile & Compact, 12 x 9.5 x 3.8 inches by Deep Echemendia

Very strong and durable speaker bracket

I bought two sets of these speaker brackets. The first set was already installed in November 2009 and the second set just last week in February 2011 to soon install another speaker set. Both bracket sets are designed for four identical speakers: Sony SS-U3030 bookshelf units from the 90s. These speakers weigh about 10 pounds each, which is well within the weight specifications of these mounts. If the pivot bolts were properly tightened, the old fasteners would not sag at all. One of my speakers is mounted above a door and there is very little clearance between the bottom of the speaker and the top of the door. The gap is about 3/4 inch so any deflection is easy to see. When it sags, the door hits the speaker. Just like the position of the screws, you can flip the bracket, take it apart and flip it as you like. I had to do this so the screw heads could be accessed from below and away from the corner of the wall. Flexibility is greatly appreciated. Some additional mounting brackets are provided to facilitate other speaker mounting orientations and methods. There are also too many extra screws included, which is a nice touch. The only screws not included were lever screws. I have used them Pivot Bolts for attaching fasteners to my drywall. I don't know how well these mounts can hold a 25 pound speaker but I believe it will do the job just fine. Just tighten the screws and you're good. These mounts are great and I've even gone back to the same make/model when I needed more. However, I can only give them four stars. Why? First, I want them to put 3" derailleur bolts. Second, the speakers will be about 3.5 inches from the wall. If you have large, bulky hands, accessing the screws with an Allen key can be awkward. As with any project, be patient, model it first and have fun!

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • No mold required
