Plantronics Savi 8220 is a base and headset solution. The base station can be connected to the device in three ways: 1. USB cable (e.g. a laptop) 2. Handset adapter (e.g. a desk phone with a handset connected to the base station via a modular cable) . 3. Bluetooth (like mobile phone). You can switch between the connected sources by pressing one of the three buttons on the top of the base unit; Display shows the currently active source. The headset connects to the base unit via DECT, a wireless telephony standard that offers good quality and range. The 8220's headset is binaural, meaning it covers both ears, and uses Plantronics' newer smooth ear cushions. The microphone works well and the headset offers active noise cancellation, which you may find useful. Headphones may not block enough external sound for a noisy environment. I chose this because I was tired of using a Bluetooth headset that randomly switches between sources and I needed a headset that I could use with my landline phone and for video conferencing through my computer. So far it has worked fine for me.
