The manual that came with the device gets zero stars. Mostly unclear. Better use the product description posted on Revain as it is written in clear English with helpful pictures. "Voltage check" as described on the Revain website doesn't work for me. You can see in the picture that when I insert the tip of the tester into the "live" side of the connector, the background of the LCD screen turns red. This hasn't happened with any of the outlets in my house. However, when I remove the outlet cover and place the tip of the tester on the "live" wire, the background of the LCD changes to red as shown in the picture. and flashes when the tip of the tester is inserted into the hot side of the socket, only the LCD background does not change color as shown in the figure. What I like 1) The flashlight comes in handy when working in a dark outlet 2) The LCD has a 'built in' signal strength meter that can help me distinguish between neutral or hot wires 3) The beep and bright flashes give a very clear Feedback 4 ) Low sensitivity mode is useful for low voltage wiring such as doorbell wiring
