Review on Monoprice Unity 100W Bridgeable Power Amplifier in Black by James Chandran

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Has all the necessary features.

I am using this product to power the high surround back speakers in my Dolby Atmos 7.4.4 setup. Yes, I have 4 tweeters: 2 front speakers, 1 center speaker, 2 rear speakers, 2 rear speakers and 4 subwoofers (one in each corner of the room). Powered by Onkyo TX-RZ920 9.2 4K UHD Atmos receiver. Two additional rear height channels connect to the Pre Out jacks and that's what drives this Monoprice amp. In case you're wondering, 2 subwoofers are part of my front speaker setup configured as full range. The other two subwoofers are connected to the Onkyo outputs sub1 and sub2. Many people don't realize the incredible difference balanced subwoofers can make. Now back to the Monoprice amp, it's so well designed and configured. Love the fact that you can choose to have it turn on automatically or run from the main amp's 12v trigger. The unit is compact, rugged and comes with sturdy brackets for wall mounting or stacking. There is also the option to bypass the amplifier or select a 4 or 8 ohm output. The volume control is an almost hidden knob - great for this application - no chance of accidentally changing the volume after the whole system has been carefully calibrated. The amplifier turns on silently when needed and turns off again some time after the music has ended. Excellent. My only small issue is that the speaker connection could be more reliable. On the other hand, it is designed to connect all wires to one connector, which is very convenient for installation and maintenance.

Pros
  • volume control on the back. Built-in protection circuits against overheating and short circuits.
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Perfect to expand from 7.2.2 to 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos
