Review on Kryptonite Noose Bicycle Chain Evolution by Patrick Hilzer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Please investigate. for cycling

Important Edit: This chain is heavy, the lock is thick and the whole package is bulky. I bought this with a 4ft 10mm Kryptonite cable so add that to the total. Carrying that weight in your trunk, trunk or, God forbid, a backpack will slowly kill you. I recently bought a medium frame Ibera bag and not only does the entire set and bag fit (tightly) in the bag, but it creates a weight distribution that actually makes the ride that much better than without it. The extra weight (probably an extra 8 pounds on a 26-pound bike) sits right in front of the balance point and just under the seat, making the bike more grounded but not sluggish. I was able to push the bike much harder without affecting its trajectory, and I didn't notice any difference in the feel or overall responsiveness of the bike, its power, or its overall weight. I list the MEDIUM sized Ibera bag (which I can also use with a sport bottle mounted underneath and a bike pump mounted next to it) because the large bag not only takes up all the space in your frame, but also allows the chain enough freedom of movement during the ride you definitely don't need. After researching U-locks for several days and measuring the pros and cons of different models, I finally settled on this chain and disc lock. It's perfect for what it is. It's versatile, powerful, simple. You won't be able to defeat this thing with simple tools. HOWEVER - check out Kryptonite's ATPO program. I'm locking a $500 bike on a suburban campus for evening classes. Kryptonite sells locks that are 2x lighter and 3x lighter for $30-$40 less than the 7/10 plan, meaning they're eligible for a free year of ATPO (and $10 for an extra year) have and with their attachment the frame will work. . It's annoying when your bike gets stolen, but it's also annoying to be lugging around 30% extra weight that you don't need as the cost of your bike is covered by a lighter lock should it get hit. If you don't want to lock gear over $2500 then consider a lighter lock as the 7/10 is still ATPO compliant. The extra $30 you spend on your 9/10 and 10/10 locks literally buy you 5 years of ATPO if you sign up within the first 30 days. So this lock and chain gets 5 stars for fit and performance, but 3 stars for value for money.
