Oregon Scientific WR601N Weather Radio

I have had the Oregon Scientific WR601N Portable Weather Radio for about 11 years and it has worked flawlessly the entire time. When it finally stopped working, I had no other thought than to order a newer version of the same product, namely the WR601N. I'm only using the radio as an internal device to warn of severe thunderstorms that can cause high winds, possible tornadoes and/or hail, which we get occasionally here in Florida, so I can't comment on its portability. What I can say is that the WR601N can be programmed to only respond to weather issues related to your immediate area. That way you won't be bothered with information that wouldn't normally pertain to you. The radio is loud enough to be heard in a medium sized house and repeats a second time so you don't miss the original information. The radio runs on batteries, but it is best to use an AC adapter to avoid draining the batteries. The only downside I see with the WR601N is the fact that it can be a bit tricky to set up and I can see where others have noticed the same. If you read the quick setup guide carefully, I think you'll be able to figure it all out. However, if you are having trouble, call the toll-free number listed in the instructions and an Oregon Scientific representative will guide you through the process. I only gave this weather radio 4 stars because of the complicated setup. In terms of functionality for home use, this is 5 stars.

Not as good as the older version of this radio.
