Every few years there are changes in both capacity and hardware configuration. At the moment my MacBook Pro only has USB-C ports which do not support USB 3.0 ports. My iPhone charges by plugging one end into the iPhone's micro USB port and the other end into a USB 3.0 port. So I can't connect my iPhone to my MacBook Pro. However, it is possible with the Verbatim 4-Port USB-C Hub. The hub has a USB-C connector that I can connect to my MacBook Pro and 2 USB 3 ports plus 2 USB-C ports; The one on the left with a small 3-dash line is a power-only connector. With one male USB-C and two female USB-Cs, I can now charge/connect my other devices (iMac, iPhone, and iPad) and my USB-C-only MacBook Pro. There are a few things you need to know: 1. Micro USB ports/connectors are not compatible with USB-C ports even though they look similar. 2. The USB-C ports use USB 3.1 protocol, which is twice as fast as USB 3.0 protocol. 3. USB-C plugs and ports do not have a "right side". So when you go, you need a device. B. Verbatim USB-C 4-Port Hub; Otherwise the transition will be difficult.
