I have service experience. This block had to be set to high strength to find the studs through 1/2 of the drywall. I know what's underneath because I built the house. but if you lower it, you run the risk of discovering other things inside the walls as well. Each spike search is a chore, back and forth, back and forth, and "well, maybe!" If it seems like the spike is showing, on the next run it turns out that it's on a different one location. Set it to the default setting (normal wall depth for drywall is 1/2" to 3/4" and it won't find anything, nada, zip, zero. You'd better use another block or old fashioned nail and tape). measure to find the pin.
