The hinge mechanism works well and they are generally well made. The blades are an unknown stainless alloy, but they won't rust in my dishwasher. Stainless steel alloys are generally not as sharp as other steel alloys, but that's the price you pay for not rusting. As long as they work well and the design makes them easy to sharpen, I'm not worried about that. I guess normal people don't sharpen their scissors on a regular basis, but I strongly encourage you to do so. It's pretty easy to make and they're a lot nicer to use.
