Insert with insert removed in furniture legs

On my other leg, the insert came loose without undue effort. I drilled 1/2" holes 1 1/4" deep to facilitate spacing. This is a hand of 8. I used 4 so I can't get them back, 1 in total and now I don't just need 3. It's better to spend a little more for better quality.
