Insert with insert removed in furniture legs

On my other leg, the insert came loose without undue effort. I drilled 1/2" holes 1 1/4" deep to facilitate spacing. This is a hand of 8. I used 4 so I can't get them back, 1 in total and now I don't just need 3. It's better to spend a little more for better quality.

Cheap junk. Do yourself a favor and skip this.

The hex slot that holds the socket in place is cheap and flimsy metal - like brass? Your allen wrench will break this thing unless you drill a hole wider than you think necessary. It will break, and once it does, you won't be able to get it out except by tearing it to pieces. This is the classic cheap junk where they tried to save pennies by using a weak and flimsy alloy instead of plain steel. I clicked on three of the first six I had installed before tossing the entire package into the trash.

Works well. to furniture fittings

read where some people had problems with them breaking during installation. The largest diameter of the solid part of the nut, excluding the thread itself, is 0.5". If you are drilling a hole less than 1/2 inch, the hard part of the nut needs to compress the wood as it is screwed in. This is a difficult task, especially when trying to install in hardwood. If you use a 1/2" drill bit, only the thread will cut into the wood the way it should. It's a good thing I have more tools than Home Depot…
