If you really want salt and pepper in your food, RUN! These are the worst coffee grinders I've ever bought - even worse than the ones I bought at Walmart! At least they worked for a while. The grind is uneven at best, and that is when any product comes out of the grinder. The finest grind gives you a fluff, but a little more and you get a fine grind to mix with the PITS (if using pepper). The only way to get the salt is to put the lid on and bang the table upside down, because no matter how you hold it or grind it, the salt stays in the grinder, not in the food. The pepper goes everywhere EXCEPT your food. I peppered the whole stovetop and held the meat grinder right over the pan, but there was almost no pepper in the food. I wish I could return them but you won't know they suck until you use them.
