Review on Overdrive Mounted Standard Electric Bicycles by Brian Graham

Revainrating 4 out of 5

2000+ miles tested, 1 year owned: good overall but some flaws

Pros: + Decent build quality + Includes locking pin and bike locks + Tilts away from trunk for access + Can sail folded and folded neatly Cons: - Heavy to stand - Awkward to put on and take off Other Notes: Be careful when tightening the clutch pin, the anti-vibration threads can be easily torn off if you use a ratchet larger than the tool provided (see .Image of anti-roll system). The anti-sway system acts more like a "damper" for vertical sway, but lateral sway is largely eliminated. When used with a hitch tensioner, it eliminates most of the vertical vibration at the hitch connection point. I rode my road bike with the KAC Overdrive bike rack on a 14 hour trip from San Francisco to Seattle with no problems. I've ridden over 2000 miles with this bike rack and it's holding up well. I like that the trunk can be lowered so I can reach the trunk. In addition, this luggage rack also offers pin and bicycle locks. I wouldn't leave my bikes locked to a bike rack overnight, but locks are nice when stopping on my rides. This bike rack is well priced as it offers the features of more expensive brands (like Kuat, Thule) but the design isn't as refined. For example, the bike rack is difficult and inconvenient to remove, and I question the durability of the anti-sway system. However, these small sacrifices are made up for by the competitive price. I recently removed the threads on the anti-sway system that the clutch pin goes through. However, I used my own ratchet, which is longer than the tool that came with it, so it took less effort to remove the threads. This rendered the anti-sway system useless and I had to buy a hitch tensioner instead. I contacted the KAC customer service and the customer service sent me replacement parts for the anti-vibration system within a few days. The support team responded quickly and overall I was satisfied. Now when I tighten the hitch pin and use the hitch tightener, the bike rack doesn't wobble where it connects to the hitch.
