truck installation? You may need to purchase additional cables.

Bought both this and the 'correct' cable kit (sold separately). It gets the job done and the overall quality seems very good. The converter box is slightly larger than a deck of cards and can therefore be easily installed in the recess behind the left rear light. However, the double sided sticky pad used to attach it is a bit flimsy, I wouldn't trust it alone. The pad seemed to stick well to the metal of the truck, but the transducer fell/detached from the pad too easily, so I used acrylic tape to attach the transducer to the self-adhesive pad. Now it is reliable but not permanent. The kit includes easy-to-use wire splices and crimp terminals. I would recommend using heat shrink tubing to seal the crimps and/or electrical tape. MAY BE SURE TO RUN TO THE HARDWARE SHOP TO BUY A FEW MORE WIRES. with one-size-fits-all sets. However, if you install it on anything other than a truck, you most likely won't have these problems. First, the right turn signal wire wasn't long enough. This kit fits next to the left tail light and gives you extra clearance to route the right turn signal wire from the left side of the vehicle to the right. My car was a modestly sized pickup truck and I had to fit it under my bed so I was about 3 feet shorter. The second wiring deficiency related to the wiring harness (so not technically this product) used to provide battery power to the converter box. For this reason, the cable set is sold separately, people know that their cable set may not be enough for your application, and it is very easy to create your own set. If I had made any preparations, I would have realized that there were not enough cables in the kit and I would have bought all the components separately. The pickups are pretty long anyway, and it would take about 30 feet of wire to run the wire from the back left to the front right (where the battery is). The cable set only comes with 20 feet, which is probably enough for most mid-size cars. So I ran to the hardware store and bought a few feet of green turn signal wire and 40 feet of 12 gauge auto wire (I only ended up using about 30 of them) for the power supply. I bought a brand new power cord instead of extending the power cord because I didn't want pinched cords under my truck. But when all is said and done, it worked! I definitely recommend this product.
