Review on 🍳 Ultimate Cast Iron Skillet: Utopia Kitchen Pre-Seasoned 12.5-Inch Pan for Indoor & Outdoor Cooking by Michael Cleveland

Never used it but couldn't keep it.

It's nice and tough, but it's just not right. Perhaps because it was gray instead of cast-iron black; perhaps the representativeness heuristic worked. The handle is very short, which makes the pan uncomfortable even when empty. I hate to admit it, but upon unboxing I found it was made in China and I didn't really like it. I have no empirical or otherwise knowledge of anything wrong with the pan, but I just didn't feel good about storing it - almost like cast iron meant to be made in the United States, not some exploited Chinese who a hot forge works in it for pennies. Colonial romance, humanism, a bit of both? So I brought back what could have been a fine pan, despite the uncomfortably short handle, and bought a Lodge pan, which is black, has a much longer, more comfortable handle, and is made in America; probably some exploited American working in a hot forge for pennies.

Pros
  • accessibility
Cons
  • too dumb
