The first time I used a silicone mold was duplicating some lost battery covers for home phones. I simply buried one I wanted to copy into a mold, and I was able to easily make extras using polyurethane resin. I was impressed that even the lightly-textured surfaces were authentically reproduced in the duplicate. With silicone, you don’t have to worry about two-piece molds or parting lines - you can just cut out your original with a razor blade, and the mold goes right back together.I like keeping a stock of two-part silicone around just for needs like this. I haven’t used this one yet - the application hasn’t presented itself yet. But this is a good set to get started with mold making and casting. Easy to experiment with, doesn’t make a mess.
