Review on Moen 116653 Posi Temp Replacement Adapter by Keith Leach

SLOP and a fundamental design flaw causing the handle to come loose

I think Moen's engineering department screwed that up. There is a fundamental problem with this grip adapter, which is that there is too much protrusion between this adapter and the brass end of the cartridge shaft. The mud transfers all the torque applied to the handle (if you use the handle) to the bolt. You will never be able to tighten the screw enough to withstand the torque on the handle. So what does is loosen the set screw and loosen the handle. They're either in league with the plumbers to call for service, or they just didn't account for manufacturing tolerances, but this is an amazing mistake that has undoubtedly caused thousands of shower handles to come loose, which most people do attribute loose adjusting screw. The Danco metal adapter solves this tolerance problem by using a small metal washer that is cut to fit the cartridge shaft snugly.
