Hemostat must be modified!

I used this product as soon as I received it and again the next day. The large dial is excellent and easy to read. I have not yet tested the accuracy and assume it is correct and will edit this review if I find otherwise. Here is my main complaint. It's with a hemostat. I used it for deep frying in a cast iron Dutch oven. Indentation about 4-5 inches. The hemostat will not wear out the pot thermometer by adjusting/moving it this far down the stem. It just falls/falls out of the pot. I made and attached a piece of metal to the clamp that protrudes over the pan. It worked, but the thermometer was still pretty unstable. The next day I lengthened the piece that went on the outside of the pot and tripled the thickness of the material. It was now fairly stable vertically, but not side-to-side. So I attached another piece of metal to the top of the clamp that runs along the top of the pan and stabilizes the thermometer from side to side. My modifications seem to be working fine, or at least to the point where I no longer worry about the thermometer falling in and out of the pot. If I were to use this thermometer in a very deep vertical pot I would probably appreciate it. 4 or 5 stars but it just doesn't work in a 4-6 quart Dutch oven or anything smaller that doesn't have vertical sides.
