A great reference for a geometric artist!

This book was written in 1965 but I love this book because it tells the history of blackwork first and has historical photographs which I am a fan of the costume. However, this first section takes up more than 1/4 of the book "Historical Review and Abridged Bibliography" which can be tedious and a waste of time if you are a person looking for a modern book with color pictures and a focus on learning. Methods showing step-by-step instructions with pictures of the stitches shown on the fabric and using a grid to show you the patterns; I would recommend a modern book called The Beginner's Guide to Blackwork by Leslie Wilkins. judge the tone with newspaper and black paper. In the "Design" section, the author uses a newspaper collage to show you what a strong tonal contrast, limited tones and a greater variety of tones and textures look like. Also, for any art teacher reading this commentary, this would be a great collage art project using different newspaper fonts (Headline, Smaller Headline, and Reading Text) and using black paper to understand the tonal values. I highly recommend this book. For history buffs and anyone who needs a good reference for designing repeat patterns and understanding tonal values when designing repeat patterns, thanks to Blackwork Embroidery. I gave this book 5 stars because it is a wealth of information that inspired me. me in my drawing of a repeating geometric pattern. pen and ink
