, I have both this and the StarTech S252BU313R and both have their advantages. Both worked with two 8 TB Samsung SSDs (total 16 TB). The StarTech has an on/off switch and a variable speed fan, but the 10Gb/s USB cable port format is less common, the front backlight is very bright, and the chassis is twice the size of the Fantom. This Fantom doesn't have an on/off switch or fan, but it's thinner, uses a standard USB-C cable, the side lights are easier on the eye, and the optional rubber projector (made in China) offers excellent protection. I couldn't get the Fantom to format APFS on my iMac but it was on a Mac mini and then it worked in APFS again on the iMac where I was able to reformat the APFS (weird that it needed a mini, maybe is this my iMac's fault ) . Otherwise, both worked in Ext4 (Linux), NTFS (Win), Journaled and APFS (Apple) formats. When setting the jumpers for the RAID, the StarTech reset changed a little faster when pressed while the Phantom needed to be adjusted, and then the reset held for about 3 seconds before lighting up (there was an indicator light on the Phantom, no indication on the StarTech) to the appropriate setting. Without waiting, the jumpers on the Fantom weren't automatically mapped to the RAID setup, causing problems. Overall the more featured StarTech seemed easier to implement despite being larger, but I like the smaller size of the Fantom, the added rubber protection, the fan really isn't needed that much on an SSD, the lights on the side worked great and the case itself is made in the USA. I would prefer on/off but I still like the Phantom, you just have to hold reset long enough when changing RAID - which is rarely done anyway and everything will fit and work as it should. The Fantom seems less dependent on the included outlet - partly because I use the fan at StarTech (hey, it's there), while the USB-powered Fantom worked fine, but I usually use the plug anyway for more quiet to have. For home-to-office data transfers, the smaller, rubberized Fantom might be preferable, but since I also use an AC adapter, I have to consider getting both a second AC adapter and a good quality USB-C cable. I always buy the best interconnect cables I can find. I have and use both. That's almost six out of a dozen and a half of the others. and get them sold as additional accessories, the only power plugs so I can easily carry the case to and from work. Or replace the USB-C connector with StarTech and ask them to sell the rubber protector and extra power adapters. Double height StarTech is bulkier and bulkier. Maybe you can also do without the power supply. Then maybe a smaller Fantom would be preferable, but that's my data, so I want to know there's extra power if needed. Additionally, the multi-speed fan on the StarTech can be disabled, making it as quiet as the Fantom. They sell universal power supplies. China.
