As reviewers have questioned the material of this mug, please note that the description says it is definitely glass. The special glass is light but NOT fragile. However, as with any glass object, I expect it to break or shatter if bumped or dropped on a hard surface. The cup itself is beautiful and perfect for my purposes. BUT there is a potential problem due to the way it is made. Actually I didn't read many reviews before I ordered it. I later noticed that many were referring to the small hole in the bottom of the cup that allowed water to enter, not draining, ruining the look and utility of the cup(s). So I took a closer look at my mugs and found that the hole in question was sealed on either side of the outer glass wall with tiny glass beads placed on top of the hole. The bead on the outside of the mug is inserted into a depression or small indentation in the glass to prevent hitting it when the mug is placed on it. So far I'm liking these mugs, but I feel like I need to be extra careful not to break the beads' seal, though I don't know if such a force will work over time. I will definitely put them carefully on the table and not wash them in the dishwasher. While it's possible to microwave them, especially if they're not initially filled with cold liquid, I won't do that either. The constant concern for the durability of the bore seals is why I wouldn't give them away or give them the 5 rating I would otherwise give them. In any case, the manufacturer should correct an apparent design flaw. I hope to enjoy my mug for many years to come, unlike many customers whose mugs leaked or were about to leak when the glass beads over the hole failed for some reason. And there can be no excuse from the manufacturer not to fix this problem. Such excuses as a certain percentage of these cups just don't hold water!
