Installing drives was a breeze. Connecting was easy. Working with the software that comes with this system is a real problem. I entered 4 or 5 accounts with multiple passwords none of which seemed to make sense. Then to "verify" my account, he wanted my email address to send a code, but after about 10 tries I gave up because I never received the code (and yes, I checked my spam Folder checked several times and added the Synology address to the list of accepted recipients). Now I'm trying to copy some of my music files to my Synology drive and it reminded me of the old DOS 5 days when filenames couldn't be longer than 8 characters and couldn't contain any extended characters. It will not copy a file that is not recognized by the old DOS system. Aggravating. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but it would be easy if the installation was as easy as they advertised. I have no choice but to disconnect. At least I got some good 8TB drives for the money. After several weeks of research and trial and error, I was able to get the NAS system to work the way I wanted it to. I'm not sure what I did wrong the first few times I tried to backup my music collection, but now it accepts long filenames and extended characters. I was able to see the nuances of Synolgy NAS and backed up almost all of my data (pictures, music, data files, programs, etc.). It was very difficult to get it visible on my home network at first, but after calming down and doing exactly what I needed to do, it's now part of my home network and accessible to all my computers (3 desktops, 2 laptops). I am very happy with the results so far. But I must admit that this is not PNP as Synology wants it to be portrayed. Haven't tried setting it up for cross-network access yet. One after the other.
