First, 4-stars is a bit of a stretch for this item but for my use I can’t complain too much. This was plan-9 or so in watering the cats who all seem to have somewhat of a strange approach to a water dish that often included standing on the edges with the resultant flip if it was low on water. I even built some wood frames to hold metal pots and that worked fine until the pots started dissolving on the bottoms. Rather than buying more pots we gave these a shot and there’s no flipping but they will slide if not full when a cat puts paws on the upper edge. Not a real problem but the ring at the bottom would be a stretch to call rubber and it feels more like heard plastic but that’s just my impression and I haven’t sent them out for analysis at the lab. They are somewhat thin and are about the same weight as other stainless food dishes we have of the same type that are about half the size. For about 6-bucks each I’d say they’re of average quality and in the you get what you pay for category. They look good, are easy to clean and serve the purpose so I guess I like them and that means they’re 4-stars as a cat water dish. If you want a solid dish for a larger animal they I would recommend you look further and check the item weight for something more substantial and check reviews to see if the base ring is a rubber that grips the floor. My magnet test was also a failure because the metal is so thin the magnet won’t stick… it just slides down the side… but it grabs my fridge strong enough to stay in place and hold several large Silicone oven mitts.
