I have Cat5e cables in my house with ethernet ports in every room, built in 2017 .About 2800 sf.2 story. We have had all interior walls insulated for better noise protection. The WiFi router is in a large room on the 1st floor, roughly in the middle of the house. There is no WiFi signal in the places farthest from the router. Poor reception on the porch and terrace. I read many reviews and chose the UBIQUITI Pro Hotspot to improve WiFi signal. I'm tech-savvy and hands-on - never worked in IT. I was a little nervous installing the UBIQUITI product because it was designed for business applications and I wasn't sure I could set up an access point without IT training. I read a review where a reviewer mentioned that setting it up from your PC (unlike the phone app) wouldn't be all that difficult, so I bought one to see if I could pass the test. There is a great video on You Tube that walks you through the setup. I followed his instructions and the installation was very easy. Turning on the device was easy. It took about an hour from start to finish, including mounting the unit to the wall with the supplied plate. Our house is rectangular and after installing the 1st hotspot, the coverage in other areas was still insufficient. So I bought 2 more. The 3rd install took me about 20 minutes. We now have full coverage throughout the house, outside on the porch and on the patio. The product works as advertised. This is a "dumb" device, meaning you must run the controller software from your own computer or from a virtual machine in the cloud. I like this fact because I think it will result in a longer lifespan due to the ability to update the controller software without updating the device itself. The cost, while not outrageous, is more than I was willing to pay at $149 each. But I am very happy with the result and I recommend it to everyone.
