Rugged Construction - Small Lens

Despite its size and weight, the main lens is relatively small despite the 77mm filter ring. It's manual focus only, but the aperture ring is set to allow automatic control with Pentax bodies. The picture quality is good, I didn't notice the fisheye effect. The viewing angle is about 90 degrees. It may not be suitable for city night shots due to the lack of autofocus. It's a bit pricey considering the lack of that feature. It's great for video applications and allows you to create predictable footage. In broad daylight when the aperture is closed, this is very useful for close-up shots when you want a wide view BECAUSE the 16mm specs means most objects 3-6ft away are acceptably sharp. I used this lens successfully in a Civil War re-enactment when I later wanted to capture the participants in their tents. The 28-300mm Pentax zoom lens forced me to step back too often, but it was perfect for photographing the battlefield close enough to see what's happening. So if you have a telephoto zoom but want to get close to your subjects in good/daylight, this should be your companion. Nothing else can match its performance for the price with Pentax compatible mounts. If the diameter of the main lens were as large as the body suggests, it could be an even faster lens.
