Review on ๐Ÿ”Š Efficient Transmission: LINESO Stereo Audio Signal Balun Over Cat5/6 Cable - DC3.5mm Stereo & RCA Red White by Eric Jefferson

no balloon There is no transformer inside.

This LINESO 3.5mm Stereo to RCA Category 5 Audio Balun, Red/White is not a balun. Wikipedia says that a balun is "an electrical device that converts a balanced signal to an unbalanced signal". The balun can take many forms and may include devices that also convert impedances, but are not required to do so. Transformer baluns can also be used to connect lines of different impedance. An unbalanced signal coming in or out of RCA connectors and/or an incoming or outgoing 1/8" TRS phone plug will connect directly to the RJ45 jack, so it will be unbalanced. Go to the Cat5 cable that Connect them to the RJ45. The term "balun" usually refers to a transformer that converts a high resistance to a low resistance. This device does not have a transformer. I first measured which RJ45 pins to which RCA pins and which 1/8" sections go. Everything is measured as if it were a direct connection - no transformer. But wait - the description says "balun"! Okay, I'll sacrifice one. So I sawed it in half, clean enough on the end with a razor blade. What's in it? You guessed it - just a direct connection of the shielded cable to the RJ45. NO TRANSFORMER in case you're wondering, there is no internal shielding either - just metal around the RJ45. I'm not saying it isn't, unless your CAT5/6 wiring in the wall is close to sources of noise or hum this may not work considered good sound practice. It will certainly be susceptible to RFI. Perhaps the fact that it operates at line level is enough to make it reasonably quiet. Or maybe all the great reviews are just a scam by the seller/manufacturer. What I know it is is that it is not a balun and there is no transformer in it.
