Review on Plug Adjustable Ionic Room Purifier by Ameer Kobblewood

Great concept, poor design

Although the concept of this air purifier (mini ozone generator) is great, the execution is very poor. After months of running 24/7 in our half-bath, it started making a high-pitched, screeching noise and stopped producing ozone. I followed their cleaning procedure which didn't work. I contacted the manufacturer about the issues and the warranty claim, but the only thing they seemed to care about was the fact that the 90 day warranty had expired. I had nothing to lose and decided to open the device and lo and behold I found many traces of oxidation on the circuit board components including the electrode used to generate ozone. Oxidation is the result of exposure to ozone. The ozone generating electrode is soldered/mounted directly onto the circuit board, allowing all components to be exposed to the ozone. The fan on the back of the device does not direct air through the small opening on the front of the device. Instead, it simply blows air around the entire circuit board, exposing the circuit board and components to the ozone. Also, the poorly routed 120V wire almost ran into the high voltage electrode, causing the wire sheath to melt (see fig.). This is a potential fire hazard. A badly corroded/rusted electrode caused my device to fail. If it were ozone resistant stainless steel like it's supposed to be, it would still work. I ended up removing it from the board (soldered), removed all the oxidation by sanding and soaking it in vinegar. After this repair, it immediately caught fire and produced ozone again. If I want this device to work, I have to repeat this process periodically or replace the electrode with stainless steel. Operating in a high humidity environment (bathroom with shower) will only accelerate corrosion and shorten the life of this device.
