Comfortable to hold, no temperature control

Media could not be loaded. I have a couple of kids and they all love learning how to burn wood so we put together a few different kits including this one and two unbranded Chinese kits. In this test we will compare them. The short version is a higher quality wood burning tool. It is more convenient to use and change tips. But there is no cover and no switch and temperature control. Extended Version: The two Chinese brands are almost identical (one has a yellow temp gauge and the other has an orange one. And one has an orange case and the other has a green case, otherwise they are identical). So I posted a video comparing one of them to this branded version. But here are the highlights: - It comes in a sturdy case that is very difficult to open at first. There is a spreader pin in the lock hole. I had to use pliers to pull it out, it was very frustrating to open this kit. The zipper would have offered the same protection and wouldn't have been as difficult to remove. Once that pin is out the case is fine, easy to open and quick to close. It's a well-made, very strong plastic case on the outside with a fairly weak molded section on the inside. There is no molded section for each tip as a tip is already attached to the wood burner meaning you have to reattach the same 'homeless' pin every time you remove it unless the plastic insert snaps open strong. , and you just throw away - then all the nozzles will crumble. All Chinese versions come with zip cases, many more nibs (same quality) and plastic nib organizers. The Chinese version has a much more practical storage box. The wood burner is convenient to hold and write. The handle gets warm but not hot. Although both Chinese versions have handles that get quite hot, you'll need to make sure you're wearing quality gloves while you work. They are also not that comfortable in the hand. Both Chinese brands and this Weller brand write and mark about the same quality. Both warm up in the same amount of time (you can get started after about 2 minutes from plugging in). Writing on wood is like painting on oil: going against the direction takes a lot of practice. This goes for almost any piece of advice you're likely to need. The range of Chinese brands is about three times as large. But that doesn't necessarily mean they get used to it. This weller is MUCH easier to replace with a tip! But you need pliers because you want a tight fit so it doesn't dangle. And with the tongs, you can also change while hot if you like. Pliers are not included. The pliers came with the Chinese brand. - It's plug and play. There are no additional on/off buttons. There is no temperature control. There's no light to know it's on. Chinese brands have more control. But that seems like the right temperature as it is. I haven't really tried hardwood (we only used it for pine and cork) but I think it will work well with them, even if it takes an extra pass or two.
