Review on πŸ“€ Sony BDP-BX59 Blu Ray DVD Player with Built-in Wi-Fi, 1080P 3D, Netflix, Internet Apps by Mike Bucher

Revainrating 1 out of 5

The first failed, the second was great (why am I giving it five stars?)

My The trusted one Panasonic player turned out to be defective, so I ordered it as a replacement (the Panasonic turned out to be actually fine - my receiver was misconfigured). I ordered this player but found that it wouldn't really play everything smooth and shiny. No DVD. No bluray. Not even music CDs. Not even new rims. Not even homemade discs. If it were round and shiny, the device would fail. Luckily I ordered it through Revain, who paid for return shipping and gave me a generous five week return window. I ordered the same unit as a replacement (thought the original product was not representative of Sony products) and was rewarded with the same unit, which reproduces round, glossy discs flawlessly. One thing that AMAZING me about this player is its integrated design. in the Netflix app. I've seen some old reviews criticizing this app but the current Netflix player is AMAZING. It is MUCH better than the Panasonic player (although I kept updating its software). The Panasonic App (SLOW) only shows your Instant View Queue. The Sony app shows this, as well as your browsing history and suggested movies (across multiple genres), and you can search and watch from within the app. It's almost as good as watching Netflix on your computer. Also, the Panasonic Netflix app FREQUENTLY stops to buffer content (although I have a very fast internet connection). The Sony device has only done this twice (in two months) even though I have the same internet connection. The Sony device has a USB input and supports a higher capacity and more formats than the Panasonic device (e.g. it also supports Video MPG). The Sony device also has MUCH more video/music streaming options than the Panasonic device. I've never heard of most of them, and they don't particularly interest me. I only mention this because it might be of interest to other readers. The Sony device "boots" very quickly and loads the content options very quickly. The included remote control is VERY small and has its own "Netflix" button. Nice gesture. I'm so happy with this device that I didn't even deduct a star because the original delivery was defective. Five stars.
