Great idea, poor product development. The lid doesn't cover the top; If you try to shake the container filled with liquid, the lid will leak through the "vent hole" and also push the liquid out of the spout, flooding the area under the orange cap. Now you have all the liquid on top. If the spout were redesigned with a raised fill area, you could now design a lid that "snaps” into place. The top is now liquid tight and no venting is required with a properly designed spout. I cannot recommend this pitcher.
