Don't risk your life!

I agree with other reviews that these batteries do not last. They may work well when you first buy them, but they won't charge after a little use. This wouldn't be critical if the device was, say, a small flashlight, but it isn't, THIS IS GPS AND YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT. I recommend using batteries when you first buy them and then discarding them at the first sign of trouble. By the way, the battery pack is easy to disassemble and reuse the plastic bracket. Peel off the outer covering of the tape, and then, using some force, separate the two halves of the plastic holder. Remove the dead batteries connect the two halves, put in new (decent) batteries, and put the setup back into the GPSr (observing polarity of course). If it's really important to you, you can glue the two halves together with plastic glue. I'm not an electrician so what I say next is just a guess. All USB devices, including the Garmin GPSr, use 5V DC to charge. I doubt Garmin has a dedicated circuit that changes this. Therefore you can probably charge ALL rechargeable AA batteries in a Garmin GPSr using the method outlined above. That's how I do it and had no problems.
